New Russian Ambassador to North Korea Takes Up Post in Pyongyang

Andrei Podelytsin has officially taken up his position as the new Russian ambassador to North Korea in Pyongyang. His arrival marks a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between Russia and North Korea.

Podelytsin was welcomed at the airport by officials from North Korea's foreign ministry and embassy staff. He emphasized his commitment to enhancing cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang across various sectors, including economic, cultural, educational, and sports.

The ambassador expressed his view that the relationship between the two nations has reached a 'very high level' and called for setting 'more ambitious' goals for future cooperation. His remarks indicate a desire to deepen ties and explore new avenues for collaboration.

In a gesture of respect, Podelytsin visited the Liberation Tower to honor Soviet soldiers who lost their lives during the Korean War. He also paid tribute to North Korean soldiers who died in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, laying flowers at a memorial in their honor.

Podelytsin's appointment follows the unexpected death of his predecessor, Alexander Matsegora, in December 2025. His tenure is anticipated to influence the dynamics of regional diplomacy significantly.
