S. Korean, Central Asian Leaders Agree to Deepen Cooperation in Critical Minerals, Energy

In a significant move towards strengthening ties, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan convened in Seoul to discuss deepening cooperation in critical minerals and energy.

During the inaugural Korea-Central Asia Summit, President Lee emphasized the need for a collaborative approach that goes beyond individual projects, aiming to build joint industrial capabilities and value chains. He proposed integrating Central Asia's strengths in resources with South Korea's advanced technologies to foster job creation and expand supply chains.

The summit resulted in a memorandum of understanding that outlines cooperation in various sectors, including industrial policies, manufacturing, and digital transitions. A consultative body was also established to facilitate ongoing discussions among the industrial ministers of the participating countries.

President Lee highlighted the strategic importance of Central Asia as a partner for South Korea, particularly in diversifying export markets amid changing global dynamics. The leaders expressed optimism about the future of their partnership, marking the summit as a foundational step towards enhanced collaboration.

Additionally, they adopted the Seoul Declaration, which sets forth their vision for cooperation over the next three decades, and discussed initiatives in artificial intelligence and science, aiming to leverage technological advancements for mutual benefit.
