Hanwha Aerospace has apologized for its controversial hiring practices that discriminated against experienced applicants.
Hanwha Aerospace has officially apologized for its controversial guidelines regarding experienced hires, which unfairly restricted applicants based on age and educational background.
The company's CEO, Lee Boo-hwan, addressed the issue in a statement posted on the company's website, emphasizing the importance of fair recruitment practices. He acknowledged that the creation of guidelines limiting opportunities based on personal characteristics unrelated to job performance was unacceptable.
The controversy arose after the Ministry of Employment and Labor initiated an inspection into allegations that Hanwha Aerospace distributed guidelines that favored certain age groups and educational institutions during the recruitment process for experienced workers.
In his apology, Lee stated, "This was an act that directly undermined the fundamental principles of 'open recruitment' and 'providing fair opportunities.'" He also promised to implement preventive measures and discipline those responsible for the flawed guidelines.
Hanwha Aerospace clarified that the controversial guidelines were the result of an individual's actions within the HR department and were never put into practice. The company has committed to ensuring a diverse and inclusive recruitment process moving forward.
