South Korea Stresses 'Clear Understanding' with Ukraine on N.K. POW Transfer

This statement comes in response to Ukraine's denial of an existing agreement on the matter.

The ministry's spokesperson, Park Doo-soon, asserted that both nations had previously agreed to keep the transfer of two North Korean POWs confidential, citing the need to protect the safety of the soldiers and their families. This understanding was reportedly reached during consultations at various levels, although Ukraine has contested the existence of such an agreement.

Tensions escalated after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly acknowledged the transfer of the POWs during a recent United Nations address.
