Netflix's 'Mousetrap' Sets August 2026 Release, Reunites Ryu Jun Yeol in Identity-Theft Thriller

Netflix is preparing to add another Korean thriller to its 2026 lineup with 'Mousetrap,' a drama based on the webtoon 'Field Mouse' by creator Ludvico. According to industry reports, the series is expected to premiere internationally on August 28, 2026, though Netflix has not yet issued an official confirmation of the date.

The story follows Je Mun Jae, a reclusive novelist portrayed by Ryu Jun Yeol, whose isolated existence is shattered when his fingerprint authentication suddenly stops working and the one friend who managed his affairs vanishes without explanation. Mun Jae soon discovers that a mysterious figure known only as 'Rat' has stolen his identity, his fortune and even his name, forcing the introverted writer out of hiding to reclaim everything he has lost.

Ryu Jun Yeol, known internationally for his roles in Netflix's 'The 8 Show' as well as films like 'Alienoid' and 'A Taxi Driver,' takes on a character described as living quietly with social phobia before his world is upended overnight. Joining him is veteran actor Sol Kyung Gu, who plays No Ja, a loan shark and private investigator who has been tracking Mun Jae since he vanished after failing to repay a debt. When Mun Jae resurfaces three years later, No Ja agrees to help hunt down 'Rat,' drawn less by loyalty than by the chance to recover his money.

The production is directed by Kim Hong Seon and was previously known under the working title 'The Rat.' Filming took place across roughly seven months, from mid-April through November of 2025, and the series has since moved into post-production ahead of its anticipated release.

With its premise blending psychological suspense, identity fraud and a reluctant partnership between two very different men, 'Mousetrap' joins a growing wave of Korean webtoon-to-drama adaptations that Netflix has leaned on for its global content strategy. Fans of Ryu Jun Yeol's tense, character-driven performances in past Netflix hits will likely find familiar territory here, while Sol Kyung Gu's involvement adds further weight to a project already generating buzz well ahead of its formal announcement.
