Hyundai Glovis Deepens Ties With Chinese Manufacturers to Cut Dependence on Hyundai

Hyundai Glovis, the logistics arm of Hyundai Motor Group, is widening its client base in China as part of a push to reduce its dependence on shipping contracts tied to Hyundai and Kia affiliates.

The company said Monday it had signed a new shipping deal with a major Chinese battery manufacturer to transport batteries produced in southern China to automotive plants in Hungary, Spain and Italy. The volume and value of the contract were not disclosed.

The agreement adds to a growing list of non-affiliate deals in China. Hyundai Glovis has already secured a contract to move semi-assembled vehicle parts and press equipment for a major Chinese electric vehicle maker to its plants in Eastern Europe, along with a separate deal to disassemble and package finished vehicles for another Chinese automaker. Under that arrangement, Hyundai Glovis inspects the vehicles in China, breaks them down for shipment, and transports the parts to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan via the Trans-China Railway before they are reassembled.

All three deals will run through Hyundai Glovis' container-forwarding service, which oversees logistics from origin to final delivery rather than a single leg of the journey.

The company is also carrying a growing volume of Chinese-brand vehicles aboard its pure car and truck carriers. The number of Chinese-made vehicles it transported nearly doubled from about 260,000 units in 2023 to roughly 510,000 in 2025.

To support the expansion, Hyundai Glovis showcased its shipping capabilities at the World Breakbulk Expo 2026 and recently set up a dedicated unit to handle high-and-heavy cargo such as large vehicles and industrial equipment. A company official said Hyundai Glovis intends to keep expanding logistics partnerships with mobility companies worldwide, building on its shipping competitiveness.
