BTS has set a fresh streaming benchmark. Spotify announced that the music video for the group's single "NORMAL" became the most-streamed K-pop music video in a single day in the platform's history, a milestone reached within hours of its debut.
The visual premiered at midnight on Friday, July 17, and ran exclusively on Spotify for its first 48 hours. Premium subscribers in participating markets could search for the track, press play and switch to the video, an unusual distribution strategy that funneled global demand onto a single platform.
Directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Tanu Muino, the wintry clip shows Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook stepping away from the spotlight, unwinding inside an ornate mansion and savoring small, ordinary moments together.
"NORMAL" is the second single from BTS' fifth studio album, ARIRANG, following "SWIM." That earlier track debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 in April while ARIRANG opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking the septet's seventh chart-topper on each list. The album also became the most-streamed K-pop release in Spotify history after its March 20 arrival.
The record extends a commanding run for BTS following the members' return from South Korean military service. Their label under HYBE has steadily rebuilt momentum, and the group's international demand appears undimmed.
The achievement lands during the ARIRANG world tour, which included a two-night stand at Stade de France near Paris on July 17-18. The band is also set to co-headline the inaugural FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, sharing the bill with Justin Bieber, Madonna and Shakira.
