North Korea Denounces Sanctions Report as 'Illegal', Defends Overseas Labor

North Korea has recently condemned a report from a U.S.-led sanctions monitoring team, labeling it as 'illegal' and accusing it of misrepresenting normal activities as illicit. The report claimed that North Korea continues to deploy workers abroad in violation of U.N. sanctions, with an estimated 100,000 workers in various countries, primarily in China and Russia.

In response, a spokesperson for North Korea's foreign ministry stated that the country's overseas labor program is a legitimate economic activity that should not be interfered with by external parties. They emphasized that these exchanges are in accordance with bilateral and multilateral treaties.

The North Korean statement also rejected the legitimacy of U.N. sanctions, arguing that such measures violate the principles of sovereignty and non-interference outlined in the U.N. Charter. The spokesperson asserted that North Korea would vigorously counter any attempts to obstruct its development and maintain cooperative relations with other nations.

This development comes as the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) continues to monitor North Korea's compliance with U.N. sanctions, which were established to curb its nuclear and military ambitions. The MSMT was created following Russia's veto of a resolution to extend the mandate of the U.N. Security Council's Panel of Experts on sanctions against North Korea.
