LG Energy Solution Expands US ESS Production Network

LG Energy Solution has established a comprehensive energy storage system (ESS) production network in North America, aiming to capture a significant share of the growing market. The company recently ramped up operations at its Lansing, Michigan plant, which is set to produce both ESS and electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

With an annual production capacity exceeding 35 gigawatt-hours, the Lansing facility will begin mass production of prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries next year. This marks LG Energy Solution's first foray into prismatic battery production in North America, further solidifying its commitment to local manufacturing.

The expansion is expected to meet the increasing demand for energy storage solutions in the region, as LG Energy Solution plans to boost its North American ESS production capacity to 50 gigawatt-hours by the end of this year. This figure represents 80 percent of the company’s global ESS production capacity.

CEO Kim Dong-myung emphasized the importance of the Lansing plant, stating that it will play a crucial role in accelerating the company's growth in the North American market. The facility is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the local battery ecosystem and support the future of the U.S. mobility industry and energy infrastructure.
