Lee Calls for Resumption of Trade Pact Negotiations with Mexico

During a recent business forum in Mexico City, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the need to resume negotiations for a trade agreement with Mexico. He highlighted that Mexico is South Korea's largest trading partner in Central and South America, with bilateral trade reaching $20.6 billion last year.

President Lee pointed out that despite the significant trade volume, a comprehensive trade agreement has yet to be established. He stressed the importance of strengthening the institutional framework to provide companies with greater certainty in pursuing business opportunities.

Lee described Mexico as a key player in North American supply chains and a global manufacturing hub, particularly in advanced industries such as automobiles and electronics. He believes that a trade agreement would enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

The call for renewed negotiations comes after a meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, where both leaders agreed on a comprehensive action plan to bolster cooperation in advanced industries, including artificial intelligence and aerospace.

Lee's remarks reflect a broader strategy to deepen economic ties with Mexico, aiming for mutual prosperity as the two nations celebrate over six decades of diplomatic relations.
