Korean Air Finalizes Order for Eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters

Korean Air has officially finalized an order for eight Boeing 777-8 freighters, marking a significant step in its strategy to modernize its cargo fleet. This order is part of a larger agreement with Boeing, which includes a total of 103 aircraft, announced in August 2025 and finalized on September 16, 2026.

The Boeing 777-8 freighter is poised to be the largest twin-engine freighter in the world, offering enhanced payload capacity and fuel efficiency compared to existing models. This aircraft is part of Boeing’s next-generation 777X family and is expected to enter commercial service soon.

Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air, expressed that this agreement is a pivotal moment for the airline, emphasizing that acquiring next-generation aircraft is crucial for their fleet modernization strategy. The integration of these aircraft will significantly improve fuel efficiency and support the airline’s future as it merges with Asiana Airlines.

The finalized order was celebrated at an event attended by key figures from both Korean Air and Boeing, highlighting the strong partnership between the two companies. Korean Air currently operates a fleet of 108 Boeing aircraft and aims to strengthen its position in the competitive airline industry with this new acquisition.
