South Korea's Celltrion posted a 77.3% year-on-year jump in second-quarter operating profit, lifted by higher-margin biosimilars and a richer product mix.
South Korean biopharmaceutical company Celltrion said its second-quarter operating profit surged 77.3% from a year earlier to about $280 million, as strong sales of higher-margin biosimilars extended a record growth streak that began in 2025.
Revenue for the April-to-June period reached roughly $840 million, up 35.2% year-on-year, according to the Incheon-based firm. The sharper rise in profit pushed the operating margin to 33%, up from 25% a year earlier.
Celltrion credited the results to an improved product mix and lower manufacturing costs. Newly launched products accounted for more than 60% of total revenue during the quarter, the company said, signaling that recent additions to its portfolio are gaining traction in global markets.
The company also pointed to the benefits of its 2023 merger with sales affiliate Celltrion Healthcare, saying profitability improved after the completion of post-merger integration. Consolidating manufacturing and sales under one roof has helped tighten costs and streamline operations.
Celltrion expects momentum to strengthen in the second half, when the biosimilar industry typically benefits from increased government procurement deliveries and year-end inventory replenishment. It said it anticipates stronger participation in major national tenders alongside continued growth from new products.
"Our efforts to expand new products and improve profitability are beginning to deliver meaningful results," the company said in a statement, adding that it plans to broaden its pipeline of biosimilars and novel drugs.
Shares of Celltrion rose 3.96% on the Seoul bourse following the announcement.
